ATMOSPHERE 5/5
Who knew that such a town could produce this good of a coffee shop? Unique, fresh, good food and good coffee–and did I mention gelato! The location of this place is amazing: right off the harbor, next to several restaurants and shops, a perfect stop to your day! Grab a cup of coffee and go for a walk on the harbor or take it all the way to the beach. I know I’ll be getting some coffee and headed to the beach — two of my favorite things in one… can’t
get much better than that (well maybe if it was wine 😉 ). Bryan particularly liked this place due to this sign that harkened back to his Georgia Tech days. (Upon investigation, he discovered that it was a local school and not a contribution to a college on the other side of the country)
COFFEE 5/5
Yes, yes, and yes! This place stands out because of their honey. Their latte was fabulous, with a hint of real honey. It wasn’t overbearingly sweet, but just enough to satisfy your taste buds. Their espresso was smooth and earthy. We loved it so much that we had to make a final coffee stop on way out of town to the airport.
OTHER OFFERINGS 4.5/5
The honey cup truly has some amazing breakfast/brunch options that are fresh and healthy. I couldn’t decide what to order, because it all sounded so good. I tried their breakfast sandwich: bacon, egg, cheese… it was very yummy. Bryan got one of their omelets, which he though fantastic. My second visit there, I decided to opt for their parfait, which had just enough of a hint of their wonderful honey. If you need breakfast in the harbor, this place is most definitely recommended.
They also offer craft beer, which we haven’t tried yet.
My personal quarrel with this place (the reason it doesn’t get a 5) is that it is not opened long enough. For a place that offers ice cream, it would be nice if they were opened just past supper time. I don’t want gelato for breakfast! (usually). They had a great looking gelato/ice cream selection though we did not have a chance to try any.
They also sell their honey, which we bought a few jars of. It was that good!
WORKABILITY 3/5
There was some seating that was useful for working and meeting with people. Nice, light atmosphere and decor. Personally, I prefer a seat by the bay to look at the water while I work. (I mean it’s right there!).
If you choose to be productive at The Honey cup, don’t expect to work late hours! (Can you tell that I’m a bit sour about how early they close).
DATE PLACE 3.5/5
I think this is a great place to hit up some coffee or gelato prior to dinner, as there are several restaurants near by (like I mentioned I believe they close at 2:00 PM Monday-Friday and 3:00 PM Saturday and Sunday). Also, I wouldn’t mind grabbing some brunch here for a casual brunch/coffee date. We recommend grabbing coffee and going for a nice stroll by the water, hand in hand. You might even be able to sit and watch some sea lions or other animals. I’ve heard dolphins have been known to swim in the harbor as of late. This place only gets a 3.5 due to it’s limited hours, so definitely a brunch date.
