Getting LOST in Denver

April 9, 2018 Denver, CO

Lost Coffee

Beginning as a Castle Rock coffee truck in 2010, Lost Coffee opened their first store in 2011 and now boasts 3 locations across Colorado. We plan to visit all three locations for this blog (Aurora, Denver, Castle Rock, and even the Roasting facility if they’ll let us). Today, our journey to discover Lost Coffee starts on beautiful sunny Denver day in April.

Why “Lost Coffee”? Perhaps a homage to the TV Show that ended the year this began? Perhaps the finding of a passion of the founders? Perhaps, like the number of licks it takes to get the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world will never know.

Atmosphere

The shop is clean and modern, with a slightly industrial feel. Narrow counters line the walls, allowing for just enough room for a laptop setup. Plugs abound and free wifi is available. Two larger community tables allow for more space, if you don’t mind sharing and making new friends.

Coffee*

*Reviewers opinions on the coffee differ. Lost Coffee roasts their own coffee in Castle Rock, about 30 miles south of Denver. Bryan thinks that their cold brew is smooth, amazingly flavorful, not too bitter, and has a slight hint of fruit and nut. It’s refreshing and an ideal coffee drink for a hot day. The coffee roasts vary. We sampled the Guatemalan roast and found it flavorful with a hint of sugar cane. Cherie thought it tasted too weak.

The chai is spicy and not too sweet. Bryan enjoyed it, but Cherie found it be too milky.

Other Offerings

An interesting alternative to dairy, they offer Oatly, a milk substitute that tastes…oaty. While this sounds strange, we recommend you give it a try. It seems to steam much better than other dairy alternatives like soy and almond.

They have a  small selection of pastries, based on what the local baker chooses to provide that day, usually a muffin, scone, and some other offering. What we’ve sampled is fantastic, though limited.

Workability/StudySpace

The wall counters and community tables typically  fill up with students and humans with their computers, proving the location is a good one. The background music is relaxing and quiet enough to not distract from work. The environment allows for focusing on your work but doesn’t make you feel like you aren’t  allowed to make noise. This is no library.

Date Location

Good for a casual meetup, but not the kind of atmosphere that’s going to wow your date with ambience.
